PE-03/05 How effective is the annual flu shot?

A lot of peole follow the advice of healtcare professionals to get their annual flu shots. And while certain groups of people may be at higher risk for the flu, like the sick or elderly, the vaccine itself is based on the previous year`s virus. With the continual mutation of viruses, it`s likey the current flu bug may be immune to the new vaccine. So, is it worth it?

I`ve never gotten a flu shot or the flu. I read that the flu shot is based on the last year`s virus strains.

It`s true. The health department says that it`s only about 50% effective, since there are so many strains of the virus each year.
